What are the health benefits of CBD oil?

CBD oil is nothing but part of the mainstream, and the substance is claimed to help with just about anything you will ever think about. From focus to memory to pain, people claim that CBD oil is the go-to option, making the cannabinoid appear as a one-cure-all substance. Nonetheless, there is not enough scientific evidence to prove that CBD oil might help with all these things linked to it, which is why we are not in the business of marketing CBD oil for treating, healing, diagnosing or curing any medical condition. In this blog, we share the common health benefits linked to CBD oil, but before trying any CBD oil product, whether for you or kids, talk to your doctor to get dosage instructions and know the likely side effects and interactions the cannabinoid may send you to.

CBD Oil for Pain

Since 2900 BC, humanity has been using cannabis plant and its derivatives to manage pain, and the trend is not about to change now. The hype around CBD oil has increased, and one of the most popular reasons people use CBD oil products is to manage pain. However, there is not enough scientific evidence to prove that CBD oil might relieve pain. However, a study by Vučković, et al., (2018)., review considered a series of studies from 1975 through 2018 and concluded that CBD oil could help reduce pain, specifically from neuropathy, cancer, and fibromyalgia. Still, we need more in-depth studies featuring human subjects to prove CBD oil’s role in pain relief.

CBD Oil May Help to Solve Sleep Issues and Insomnia

Many people deal with sleep issues and insomnia and take long to sleep or sleep only for a short time. This depreciates their quality of life, especially because they cannot stay awake during the day when they need to work, and their productivity is affected. There is not enough evidence to warrant credit to CBD oil for sleep issues and insomnia, but anecdotal research and early studies promise that CBD oil may help improve one's sleep quality. For instance, one study by Suraev, et al., (2020)., used 72 subjects to examine the effects of CBD oil on sleep (47 people) and anxiety (25 people). In the end, 66.9% reported better sleep, while 79.2% experienced better sleep. Still, more studies are required to confirm that CBD oil might help with sleep.

CBD Oil for Weight Management

Weight loss has become a hot topic, and the weight management industry is one of the richest, earning billions annually. According to one study by Garcetti, & Sleepy, (2022)., it offers a guideline about the role of CBD oil in weight loss, with some suggesting that CBD oil might lead to weight gain while others are linking it to weight loss. As such, we do not recommend CBD oil and its products for weight loss, and whoever chooses them should consult his doctor beforehand and get instructed on CBD oil dosage. Studies suggest that CBD oil could help promote weight loss by initiating browning of white fat cells, boosting metabolism, and reducing a person’s appetite. Yet, there is not just enough evidence for crediting CBD oil for weight loss.

CBD Oil for Mental Issues

Based on a study by Kachru, et al., (2021)., CBD oil may help cure issues related to mental issues. Among the many CBD consumers, the hemp market boasts, are people suffering from mental issues. For instance, more than 20 million people have schizophrenia globally, yet more than 60% do not get appropriate care, and they turn to other alternatives, including CBD oil. Even so, there is not enough scientific evidence to prove that CBD oil might help with mental conditions. Besides, people living with neurodegenerative complications like Parkinson's, Huntington's, Alzheimer's and dementia try CBD oil for the symptoms of the disease, but we do not recommend CBD oil for any of these because of the knowledge gaps in CBD studies.

CBD Oil for Epilepsy

Hausman-Kedem, et al., (2018)., conducted a study which confirmed that CBD oil can help with epilepsy. Epilepsy is a neurological condition characterized by sudden seizures, foaming in the mouth, and loss of consciousness and is caused by the sudden misfiring of electric impulses. Anything that stands in the way of or disorients the functioning of electric impulses triggers or exacerbates epileptic seizures. One study indicates that some parents have administered CBD oil to their kids. The same study notes that while some report a reduction in seizures, they do not come with some forms of side effects, including weight gain and dry mouth. In 2018, the FDA approved the use of Epidiolex, a cannabis-derived drug, for managing Dravet Syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut, two rare forms of epilepsy.

CBD Oil for Inflammation

Inflammation should be a harmless process since it is a reaction the body triggers in response to some external factors that would otherwise harm cells. However, inflammation becomes a nuisance and maybe a threat when the body triggers it without an external factor. This means that the immune cells will only fat and harm themselves, leading to pain and allergic reactions. Sadly, if the symptoms are not managed, inflammation becomes a serious detriment and might be to blame for lifestyle conditions such as cancer, diabetes type 2, heart disease and more. While CBD research is limited, and we don't recommend the cannabinoid for treating anything, some research, like that of Burstein, S. (2015). suggests that CBD oil might reduce inflammation. The same study also notes that CBD oil interacts with neurotransmitters and the endocannabinoid receptors, ultimately working against inflammation and pain.

Other Claimed Health Benefits of CBD Oil

As stated at the outset, people believe that and take CBD oil to help with just about anything. Consequently, CBD oil has been used for a plethora of conditions, some common while others are unfamiliar. Other CBD oil uses include managing arthritis, boosting appetite, managing alcohol dependence disorder, boosting memory and focus and promoting energy gain. Still, like with other uses above, there is not enough scientific evidence to give CBD oil credit for solving the mentioned issues.

CBD oil has attracted much hype since its legalization in 2018. CBD oil proponents claim that the cannabinoid can reduce pain, fight inflammation, fight sleep issues and insomnia, boost concentration and memory, manage weight and handle mental issues. However, the blog has revealed that CBD oil has not had enough scientific studies with sufficient evidence to prove these claims true. As such, CBD oil for any condition is a risky approach, and whoever chooses the cannabinoid for anything should consult his doctor firsthand.
