Strawberry rhubarb pie recipe

Baking with CBD in your Strawberry rhubarb pie is something you wouldn't wish to miss due to its various health benefits. Although most of the suggested health benefits are yet to be approved, the clinical attempts available show promising results in addressing various conditions, including reducing stress and anxiety and helping you get enough sleep. However, these benefits can only be accrued if CBD is taken in considerable amounts, just like any medication. Since the legalization of hemp-based products in 2018, the only approved health benefit of CBD is for treating epilepsy. Therefore, including CBD in the Strawberry rhubarb pie recipe will make you address either of the mentioned issues. Before getting to the recipe, you should understand more about CBD.

What is CBD?

CBD is a chemical compound found in cannabis-related plants including hemp and marijuana. However, CBD found in cannabis sativa and hemp plant were legalized by the 2018 Farm Bill, leaving out marijuana-based CBD. Besides CBD, these plants contain other elements, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), being among the dominant chemical compound among these plants. Fattore et al. (2011) explained that, unlike CBD, THC has intoxicating side effects that will make you feel “high”. THC levels found in marijuana-based CBD are over 2.5%, unlike hemp-based, below 0.3%. There are various concerns regarding the effectiveness of THC in full-spectrum CBD for your Strawberry rhubarb pie Recipe. According to Gallily et al. (2018), CBD has anti-inflammatory properties suitable for regulating hormone production in the body that would improve your mental health.

Which Type Of CBD Can One Add to Strawberry rhubarb pie Recipe?

There are three types of CBD you can choose from depending on your preference. However, either of them has proved to be effective and outstanding.

Full Spectrum CBD For Strawberry rhubarb pie Recipe

Full-spectrum CBD is among the most commonly manufactured. It comprises all the elements of the hemp plant, including flavonoids, THC, CBD, and terpenes. Due to the multiple elements, full-spectrum CBD provides a suitable platform for the entourage effect. The entourage effect is the ability of various elements to work together to provide more health benefits than a single one. According to Boehnke et al. (2022), full-spectrum CBD is suitable for reducing anxiety, among other wellness issues, including improving sleeping patterns. However, these benefits can only be accrued if full-spectrum CBD is taken considerably to avoid the accumulation of CBD in the body, which can result in the "high" effect, as suggested earlier.

Broad Spectrum

Broad-spectrum CBD shares various similarities with the full spectrum. The only difference between the two is the absence of THC in the broad spectrum; otherwise, it also has all the elements of the hemp plant. Broad-spectrum is highly preferred for the entourage effect because of the absence of THC. However, that shouldn't be a reason for adding too much broad-spectrum CBD in a Strawberry rhubarb pie recipe. van de Donk et al. (2019) explained that too much CBD could result in feeling dizzy, experiencing diarrhea, dry lips, and having red eyes. Therefore, seek a better prescription from the nearest health facility. Also, it is recommended to seek medical consultation before replacing CBD with any medication or using them co-currently.

Isolate CBD is somehow different from other types. It only has one element (CBD). Therefore, it can provide an entourage effect. Isolate is only suitable for CBD-related health benefits. According to Moltke et al. (2021), CBD oil can increase your focus, reduce stress and anxiety, and improve sleep if used considerably. Watt & Karl (2017) suggested that CBD can reduce the psychoactive effect. After understanding what CBD and the different types are, let's proceed to the recipe;

The ingredients

The type of CBD will be based on personal preference, although the broad spectrum seems outstanding because of the entourage effect without being exposed to THC side psychoactive side effects.

Filling Ingredients

2 ½ cups of strawberry halves
A cup of sugar
2 Cups of rhubarb in the one-inch piece (approximately 1 pound)
1 tbsp CBD oil
2 ½ tbsp unsalted butter
2 ½ tbsp tapioca
Crust Ingredients
3 cups all-purpose flour and additional for dusting
½ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar
14 tbsp unsalted butter (about 2 sticks), cold and sliced into ¼-inch cubes
1 tbsp CBD
½ cup ice-cold water
1 tbsps. milk

With all the ingredients ready with you, proceed to the actual procedure, and you will get your Strawberry rhubarb pie within the shortest time possible.

Step 1

Combine the flour, salt, and sugar in a sizeable bowl. With a pastry cutter or fork, work on the half flour until adequately until it can resemble a coarse meal. Afterward, prepare the remaining butter into the dough, lowering the big pieces to lima bean size. Mix water with CBD oil and drizzle them in several additions, tossing and mixing each time until it is rough or ropy. Cease adding water when only a few bits of dry flour are at the base of the bowl.

Step 2

Gather about two-thirds of the dough and tightly wrap it in plastic wrap. Apply the same to the remaining third of the dough and flatten it into disks. Refrigerate them for about 40 minutes and when the dough is chilled, roll out the two-thirds and line an eight-inch pie pan.

Step 3

Consider peeling the rhubarb if it's thick, and mix the strawberries with the rhubarb in the bowl. Mix tapioca and sugar, followed by folding them gently into rhubarb and strawberries. Give it about 15 minutes to macerate enough.

Step 4

Preheat the oven to 450C

Step 5

Using butter, spoon fruit into the pastry shell and out the remaining pastry, cutting into strips of ¾ of an inch wide, weaving a lattice to cover the pie properly. If weaving is not part of your skills, lay strips at the top in a crisscross fashion. Seal it adequately, trim and crimp edges followed by brushing the lattice using milk and sprinkle with considerable amounts of sugar.

Step 6

Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes, lower the heat to 300 degrees and continue baking for about 30 minutes for the pastry to brown and the fillings to begin bubbling. Allow the pie to cool before serving. It is recommended to serve after three hours or let it settle overnight for the filling to be set.

You can now enjoy your Strawberry rhubarb pie infused with CBD to get hem-based health benefits. However, unlike the normal Strawberry rhubarb pie void of CBD, this one should be taken in considerable amounts to avoid the related threats such as diarrhea and feeling dizzy. The Strawberry rhubarb pie can be refrigerated for preservation for later use.
